FULL COLOR POSTER OF YOUNG ROOT!

"THE CARAVAN OF SOUL"
featuring the young Prince La La and the Midnight Creepers
Announcing a limited edition of 200 numbered giclee prints, color tinted and digitally restored from rare original Yale poster (circa 1965) to commemorate the 60th birthday of Ken Mackenzie aka Root Boy Slim - July 9, 2005

An amazing photo of a cape clad 20ish Ken the young Prince La La Mackenzie, this is the earliest known image of him in his James Brown influenced stage persona. The poster promoted the performing act that first brought together Yale frat brothers Mackenzie and Bob Bobby Uptight Greenlee (also captain of the football team), marking the beginning of a life-long musical collaboration that would become known years later as Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band. The Caravan of Soul was famous for never playing a venue twice as Greenlee put it. They were brothers in the highly exclusive Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and Mackenzie was its Social Director, booking his band for every frat-sponsored event possible. One notable Deke brother who rarely missed a party was none other than George W. Bush, who was a year behind them at Yale. After graduating Mackenzie and Greenlee returned for a homecoming visit and Bush, who had since become president of the fraternity, personally banned them from the premises.

Design by Mackenzie & Greenlee, circa 1965.
Tinted and digitally restored by Dick Bangham for RipBang Pictures/Root Boy Music, 2005.
Limited Edition Giclee Print - $50.00 including shipping within USA.
